Hunter Education

There are three different types of hunter education courses offered in Arizona (see schedule at bottom of page):

Introductory Course – NEW!

Two options:

1. 7 to 10 hours of classroom instruction.

*Students taking either option must also successfully complete a 4- to 5-hour field day.

2. Self-paced, independent study online via the Internet. Click Here to take this course online

with

Online Field Day Schedule (For online course only*)

*You must complete the final test online and have your certificate number ready when calling to schedule a field day.

Basic Course

About 20 hours – mostly classroom instruction and a 4-hour field day.

Combo Course

About 28 hours – the Basic course plus an NBEF/IBEP bowhunter education class. Includes a 5- to 6-hour field day.

See current course schedule below:

There is also a “supplemental” hunter education class offered for people who have completed hunter education training in other states and wish to learn more about Arizona hunting issues. Call the Education Branch at the number below for information.

All classroom hunter safety education courses are taught by Arizona Game and Fish Department certified volunteer instructors. The instructors determine when and where the classes will be held.

Note: Individuals 9 years of age or older may take either the online or classroom version of the course. If a student has not yet reached their tenth birthday but have successfully completed a course, their certification will become valid on their 10th birthday.

For more information, call the Education Branch at: (623) 236-7235 or (623) 236-7219.
