TO THE 2012 BIENNIEL CONFERENCE OF THE
AQUATIC RESOURCES EDUCATION ASSOCIATION
The mountains surrounding Phoenix, Arizona, will provide the backdrop of the 2012 National Conference of the Aquatic Resources Education Association (AREA). The AREA conference provides training and information exchange only once every two years, so do not miss the 2012 meeting. The meeting facilities this year will be at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Phoenix – Scottsdale. (Do not use this link for for room reservations. Go to the ACCOMMODATIONS page to reserve your room.)
CONFERENCE DATES: - October 21–25, 2012 - (Sunday through Thursday)
Participants will be registering Sunday, October 21, 2012. New members will be welcomed with a special New Member Dinner on Sunday night. The Plenary Session begins at 9:00 AM on Monday, October 22. Breakout sessions will be held Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will provide an opportunity for hands-on Field Studies outside the Embassy Suites Hotel in Phoenix – Scottsdale.
CONFERENCE REGISTRATION COSTS:
Conference registration has been kept low to increase attendance. Registration for current AREA members is $250. Non-members may register early for $275. After September 5, 2012, registration will be $350 for AREA members and $375 for non-members. Retirees and students who are currently AREA members may register for $150. Retirees and students who are not members may register for $160. Daily registration is also available. ROOM RATES:
AREA has reserved a block of two room suites, all of which are non-smoking. All room rates are $105.00, which is the current federal government rate. Room tax is 13.27% per night, which is rounded up to $13.94 per night, for a total room charge of $118.94 per night. You have a choice of 1 King bed or 2 double beds. MEALS:
The schedule lists which meals are included in the AREA Conference registration fees and which meals are “on your own”. All guests staying at the Embassy Suites – Phoenix-Scottsdale are eligible for a complimentary, cook to order breakfast and this includes your check-out day.
If the meal says “Hosted at”, then the cost of the meal is included in your conference registration fees. All Box Lunches are included in your registration fees for the Field Study tour of your choice.
If the meal says “Non-hosted” or “On your own”, then the meal is not covered by your registration fees and you are responsible for the cost of that meal.

AREA STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:
The purpose of the Collegiate Student Scholarship Program is to encourage college students with a strong interest in aquatic resources education to attend the Aquatic Resources Education Association's biannual conferences. Previous Student Scholarships have been awarded to folks who went on to get jobs in Aquatic Resource Education. This is a great conference to meet future employers.
AREA members include state and federal agency personnel who fund, direct and deliver aquatic resource education programs like Fishing Clinics and StreamWatch programs. AREA members include NGOs like Trout Unlimited, and private corporations like Pure Fishing (fishing tackle Abu-Garcia, Fenwick, Shakespeare and Berkley) and public foundations like the RBFF, the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation.
