This year the Arizona Game and Fish Commission authorized 12A and 12B deer hunters for hunts 1012, 1013, 1014, 1015, 1017, 1018, and 1019 to purchase a Population Management buffalo and/or elk tag for the same area and same period as their deer hunt.

On November 9^th, a Department biologist flew much of the boundary between Grand Canyon National Park and the Kaibab National Forest on the north rim (House Rock Wildlife area, Saddle Mountain wilderness, Marble, Dog, North Canyon, Swamp, Timp, and Fence points and the west side).  Only one buffalo was observed in the upper Big Springs Canyon area just north of the Park boundary.  No elk were observed.

There is very little likelihood that you will encounter either buffalo or elk during the upcoming hunt.
