Game and Fish Commission seeks modifications
to proposed Tumacacori Wilderness legislation

PHOENIX – Reasonable public access and the state’s ability to manage wildlife are two concerns the Arizona Game and Fish Commission has expressed regarding the proposed Tumacacori Highlands Wilderness Act of 2007 being considered by Congress.

The proposed wilderness area is located south of Tucson.

Currently, the Game and Fish Commission does not support the legislation as written, but has directed the department to work with Congressman Raul Grijalva, the sponsor of the legislation, to amend H.R. 3287 to recognize wildlife as an important wilderness resource and ensure reasonable public access.
