Habitat Restoration
"The Chevelon State Wildlife Area is located within the flood plains of the Chevelon Creek and the Little Colorado River. This Wildlife Area is comprised of wetland and riparian vegetation communities, and is dominated by two exotic plant species. The Wildlife Contracts Branch will implement a wetland restoration project that re-establishes the native willow-cottonwood associations and rush/sedge wet meadow community to benefit waterfowl, shorebirds, and wading birds. This project will be utilized as a model for future wetland restoration within the Little Colorado River watershed".

Flat tailed lizardFor both humans and wildlife alike, water is life in Arizona. Restoring and conserving wetland and riparian habitats for future generations is a focal point of the Wildlife Contracts Branch.


Our team of researchers can identify opportunities to restore and enhance these habitats, execute on-the-ground restoration activities, and implement specialized monitoring programs to ensure the future health and viability of these fragile ecosystems.
