Phase one recap
The six easternmost fields of the trap and skeet line have been refurbished and are fully operational, with five trap/skeet overlays and one additional trap field. These fields feature renovated skeet houses with new fencing, new pre-cast trap houses with hydraulic PAT trap machines, a new electrical system, card readers, a voice activation system and new skeet machines.
The sporting clays area, which has been operational since the first week of department management, features a six-station executive sporting clays course and a 15-station sporting clays course. Both courses have new shooting stations, benches, gun racks and card readers. One of the stations on the 15-station course includes an 8-foot-high shooting platform. |
Phase two update
Renovation of remaining trap and skeet fields. Work on the remaining 12 fields on the trap and skeet line will be complete in November 2007. The old existing trap and skeet houses were removed and replaced. A new electrical system, card readers and a trap voice activation system was installed. The 18 field trap and skeet line is fully functional.
New electrical system and lighting. Replacement of the existing antiquated electrical system with a new 1,000-amp electrical system is one of the major cost components—about $700,000—of the phase two renovation is now fully complete. More than 10,000 feet of trenching has been completed to accommodate conduit and conductors. Other components of the system include new switchgear, transformers and panel boards, lighting fixtures and equipment, lighting foundations/standards, trim devices and pull boxes, and the engineering and labor required for installation.
Shade canopies and clubhouse renovation
New canopy shade structures have been installed on all 18 trap and skeet fields, which include refrigerated water fountains. The existing club house is being renovated into a Business and Visitor Center and will be completed in the summer of 2008.
RV parking area and warehouse/maintenance facility
Site preparation has begun for the RV parking area on the west end of the Clay Target Center. This parking area will initially accommodate 40 full service spaces, with an additional 40 primitive spaces and the option for future expansion. Work has been completed on the new warehouse and maintenance facility to provide for storage and additional event space.
Estimated completion of Clay Target Center
The Clay Target Center now has 18 fully functional trap and skeet fields; 13 trap and skeet overlays and 5 additional trap fields. Sporting Clays courses - Executive "Quail" Course and "Rattlesnake" Course - have been completed, with work starting on a new Corporate Executive Course to begin in the spring of 2009. Night shooting has resumed on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, along with league competition on Wednesday nights. More information will be posted in future issues of the Clay Target Center newsletter. |
